Verrucae Treatments from £48

A verrucae is a benign neo-plasm originating from the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). It can survive for some time outside the body. To become active it needs a host cell to infect and it finds this in the upper layers of the skin known as the epidermis, often entering through cuts or abrasions. Approximately 60% of verrucae will resolve within 2 years of appearing however, they can be very resistant, unsightly and cause discomfort.

Reduction and chemical treatments – £48

Chemical treatments are much stronger than those you can purchase in shops. Treatment requires a dressing to be kept dry and in place for 24-48 hrs and the need for 3-6 treatment applications on a weekly basis.

Dry Needling treatment – £250

This treatment is over 40 years old. A recent study by Longhurst & Birstow (2013), found that 31 of 45 patients verrucae infections completely resolved following treatment.

The way dry needling works is to push veruccae cells from the epidermis through into the dermis and hypodermis or adipose layer thereby inoculating the underlying tissue. This triggers an immune response. The appropriate antibodies are produced and over the subsequent weeks the veruccae undergoes a natural deterioration before ultimately disappearing which can take up to 20 weeks.

This treatment is carried out painlessly under a local anaesthetic to the ankle. When the area is numb, a sterile medical needle is pushed into the verrucae a number of times to damage the cell wall and introduce the virus to the body’s immune system. Included in the price are dressings and 2-3 follow up appointments.

Biomechanical Assessment – £80 (45-60 mins)

A biomechanical assessment is particularly beneficial if you are experiencing pain in your feet or knees or hips whereby no diagnosis has been established.

It involves taking a thorough history of the problems experienced and activity levels. An examination of the leg, ankle and foot followed by gait analysis allows the podiatrist to assess the structures of the lower limb in relation to function and the impact they have on each other.

If necessary, orthotic devices (specialist insoles) that fit into your footwear will be prescribed. Orthotics can assist in realigning complex structures of the lower limb and control foot function which can alleviate symptoms and provide relief.

Biomechanical Assessment

Prescription Orthotic in shoe devices from £60 – £350

Devices designed to re-align lower limb structures and control foot function.

his involves assessing the foot structure and complementing it with a specialist in shoe device. In most cases a pre-made device can be very affective in alleviating symptoms. However, in more complex cases or those whereby high levels of athletic activity are common throughout, personalised casting and bespoke orthotics are likely to be more beneficial.
